Algae-Based Materials for Additive Manufacturing
Verdant Matter is developing a new platform for algae-based materials designed for additive manufacturing and other advanced applications.
Our goal is to develop a "grow anywhere" system design to tighten supply chains and activate manufacturing anywhere it's needed.

Our Story
Verdant Matter grew out of hands-on work in 3D printing, materials experimentation, and a simple question: what if algae could become more than a sustainable ingredient?
What began as an effort to develop algae-based 3D printing materials has expanded into a broader vision for application-specific materials across biotech, semiconductors, space, and beyond. Based in Maine and built under the 3DSpaceGarden umbrella, Verdant Matter is working toward a future where biological feedstocks can be transformed into high-value materials, and eventually produced wherever they’re needed.

Founder
Joshua Geary
Joshua brings a multidisciplinary background spanning physics, additive manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology. Before founding 3DSpaceGarden in 2024, he helped build strong teams of scientists, engineers, and executives across biotech, cleantech, and spacetech companies. Through 3DSpaceGarden, Joshua has built hands-on experience in 3D printing, materials processing, filament recycling and extrusion, product development, and technical education. His work now focuses on developing algae-based materials for additive manufacturing and building the infrastructure needed to move those materials from early experimentation toward commercial applications.

Advisor
William Chen
Bill brings 30+ years of experience as a professional engineer specializing in structural, thermal, and mechanical engineering analysis. He has managed multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting clients across the aerospace, industrial, and medical device sectors, and later served as Manager of Engineering Analysis at Vanguard Space Technologies, supporting the development and manufacturing of composite space structures. Bill also contributed structural and thermal analytical support to NASA’s Challenger Recovery and Columbia Return-to-Flight missions. He is a principal and founding partner of a technical services company focused on engineering prototype development and manufacturing
Markets We're Exploring
